Skymet is helping farmers to mitigate their crop-linked risks by facilitating agricultural insurance through Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the national flagship program of Government of India (GoI). Skymet is bridging the gap between farmers and insurance companies by conducting extensive pre-Rabi (winter crop) and pre-Kharif (summer crop) insurance awareness campaigns during farmer meetings.
Insurance Facilitation by Skymet-USAID Team at Telangana
Insurance Facilitation for Loanee Farmers: In case of loanee farmers, Skymet has facilitated the enrollment by creating awareness digitally or through farmer meetings and campaigns. Loanee farmers are not mandated to submit extensive documents to banks every year - the documents submitted at the time of loan disbursement are valid for crop insurance.
Insurance Facilitation for Non-loanee Farmers: Skymet has promoted the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for non-loanee farmers by helping them lodge the required paperwork and submit application in respective insurance companies.
Facilitation through GramCover Mobile App
Since Kharif 2018 (summer crop), Skymet is leveraging GramCover, a specialized insurance brokerage firm which offers a digital platform, for distribution and management of insurance policies. It is an efficient way for the facilitating farmers digitally.
These farmers who have paid an insurance premium of INR 34,367 are by definition “non loanee farmers” as they have never taken a loan and therefore usually the poorest and most underserved farmers in India.
